DC Electric Furnace

VTD
VTD (Vacuum Tank Degasser) is a vacuum degasser facility that can manufacture high-quality products, which was not possible with the conventional ladle furnace (LF). De-carburization, de-nitrogenization, and de-sulphurization occur in the vacuum of 60 - 70pa and oxygen is blown in to enhance the de-carburization capacity.

Caster
Thin slab caster manufactures slabs 67.5mm thin at the maximum speed of 5m/min. EMBR (Electric Magnetic Brake Ruler) optimizes the cast fluidity and the dynamic cooling controls the slab cooling capacity in accordance with the casting speed. In addition, the resonance mold steel type that can have its mold vibration pattern adjusted during casting as well as the liquid core reduction that join non-crystallized slabs all contribute to the making of slabs with outstanding surface and internal quality.

Reduction Mill
After the 67.5mm-thin slabs are produced by the caster, they are rolled into 20 to 30mm bars depending on the thickness of final products. Then they are cut into appropriate length with the maximum unit weight of 24 tons. The continuous mill reduces the rolling strain of finishing, which facilitates the mass production of thin slabs.

Inductive Heater
Continuous rolling process tends to lower the bar temperature but eight induction coils heat up the bars at a consistent temperature, allowing the bars to maintain the temperature of 1,100·Æ C at the exit.



Coil Box
Coil box, introduced for the first time in Korea, reels the rolled bars and keeps them at a constant high temperature to eliminate the temperature difference between the front end and the back end as well as to reduce the quality fluctuation inside the coil. The coil box is equipped with 20 COG burners to maintain the proper temperature and it is large enough to store 10 coils.


Finishing Mill
Finishing mill rolls the 20 - 30mm bars into those with the final thickness between 1.2 - 12.7mm. The finishing mill is structured in 4-high 5-stand type, and on-line grinders as well as pair cross mill that controls crown are installed to raise the product quality.
Skin Pass Mill
This 4-high 1-stand mill levels the coil shape and improves the mechanical properties of coil by skin passing room-temperature strips.
