Major black plate types are the D, L, and MR types.

D steel is AL killed steel and suitable for deep drawing or other works, which are liable to create Luder's pattern. L steel has very few metalloids and residuum like Cu, Ni, Cr and Mo. It is suitable for making containers with high corrosion resistance. It has few residual minor constituents and good corrosion resistance. It is used for a variety of purposes.

2. Mechanical Properties

Mechanical properties of black plate are determined by various factors, including steel composition, rolling method, annealing method, skin pass, and temper rolling.

It has good deep-drawing, anti-aging, and mini-earing characteristics. Due to superb ductility, it is used for deep drawing. It is used to make aerosol tops, food can tops, and portable gas containers

It has good drawing anti-aging, and mini-earing qualities as well as great ductility. It is used to make rings, plugs, pail cans, and  D&I cans.
T-2.5

L, MR, D
It has similar properties as T2. It is used to make battery bodies, small tube bodies and lids, and D&I cans.
T-3

L, MR, D
It has fine surface and excellent workability. It is used to make bodies and lids of general cans by light drawing.
T-4
61±3
L, MR, D
It has fine surface and excellent strength, thus is used to make cans for carbonated beverages.
T-5
65±3
L, MR
It has outstanding cold- rolling strength and is used as substitute for T4 and lowering gauge.
