1. Overview
 |
  |
Corrugated steel plate structure
can be easily fabricated on the spot by connecting
150mm-by-50mm corrugated sheets with bolts.
Due to its ductile nature, orrugated steel structure
can deal with the differential settlement problem,
thus complementing the shortcomings of traditional
concrete structures.Generally, it is used in ground
tunnels, water channel boxes, underground utility
tunnels, and small-scale bridges. |
|
Usage
Corrugated steel plate structure is mainly
used in underground tunnels, water and sewage facilities,
and others. Recently, its application has been extended to
include head tanks, construction materials, and small-scale
bridges which span small rivers.
Type
In general, corrugated steel
structure comes in a variety of shapes and sizes since it is
a combination of individual steel sheets of different
size and thickness. There exist various section
types: round, pipe-arch, ellipse, underpass, arch,
high-profile arch, low-profile arch, pear, pear arch,
box-culvert, and so forth. These section types
are employed for different situations and usages. Also,
a multi-span type of section utilizing stiffening
members allow corrugated plates to be used for
larger structures.
2. Specifications
Application Specifications
Korea Industrial Standard (KS) offers standard
raw material types and erection methods for corrugated steel
plate structures. It states that the standard for raw
materials should be SS400 and the amount of zinc-coating for
both sides be more than 900 g/m² Corrugated
steel structure sizes are as follows.

Design
Corrugated steel structures employ different
design methods according to their applications. The
following is the design method for the most often-used ground
structure.
Construction Sequence
 |
|
Excavation
|
You must comply with excavation
rules and regulations specified in the standard
specification for road construction. In
the case of burying corrugated plates in the excavated
ground, you should make sure that the excavation
width should be small enough to erect walls vertically,
which is the the most desirable excavation method. |
|
Foundation Ground
|
For solid foundation, you
should use good quality material (sand or sandy
soil) and pack it down properly. |
|
Erection of Steel Plates
|
The most common way
to erect plates is to assemble individual plates
into a complete structure. You first fabricate
plates at one end to form a ring and gradually
move toward the other end. The ring will
provide stability while the remaining parts of
the structure are being erected and also help
retain the proper form. |
|
Back Filling
|
You should use good
quality soil for back filling. Make sure
that the height of the left side and the right
side is equal. You should also ascertain
that the finishing layer is around 15cm in thickness
and the dry density is more than 95%.
