1. Product Characteristics
 |
  |
 |
|
 |
|
| Free-cutting elements such as
sulfur, lead, and bismuth are added to free-cutting steel
to facilitate the cutting process.
Since lead free-cutting steel is being regulated for
emitting lead fumes that cause harm to human body, we at POSCO have
developed new bismuth free-cutting steel since 1995 and
the mass production is currently underway. |

3. Quality Characteristics
 |
The heat (400~1200°C) generated from friction
of tools and material melts bismuth elements in steel.
The melted bismuth works as a lubricant when cutting,
extending the tool lifespan. In addition, the non-metallic
inclusion (MnS) in steel improves cutting and chip breaking
capability by taking on the cutting stress on itself.
This results in a smooth surface finish and enables high-speed
processing, facility automation, and high-precision processing. |
